To celebrate Jenny and her 2 years with HEARTH, we sat down for an interview so she could tell her incredible story of resilience and strength in her own words. Scroll to the bottom to listen to the full interview!
Jenny Shahinian first stepped into her role as HEARTH’s program outreach coordinator in 2020. This year is her second full year working with us and we couldn’t be more grateful for all of the hard work she has put in to make this program succeed. Her efforts never go unnoticed as she works closely with program participants and assists families with getting back on their feet so that they leave HEARTH feeling confident, secure and independent.
Jenny started out at HEARTH as a participant in the program herself and lived in temporary housing for a year and a half before moving into affordable permanent housing in 2019. The next year she accepted a position as HEARTH’s program outreach coordinator.
During her time at HEARTH Jenny has noticed a lot of great changes over the years. Some to the facility, and some to the program itself. Before she was hired, HEARTH didn’t have a program outreach coordinator. A program career coach was also added to the team over time.
Jenny stresses how critical these roles are in driving and maintaining program success while providing essential life-skills and necessary courses to program participants.
“These (roles) were not there when I was a resident, so it’s great to be able to have that additional support for out families.”
Jenny goes on to explain the importance of volunteers and the impact they have on the residents and the organization.
“Your dedication to us, to our families, which I know first hand, will create everlasting effects.”
When asking Jenny about her favorite part about living at HEARTH she lets out a chuckle responding with, “There were no bad parts. The most memorable ones that I will always cherish were because of HEARTH’s peaceful community style environment.”
We at HEARTH are so proud of Jenny and the work she has put in over the years as a resident and member of the staff. Her dedication to the organization and the families we serve makes her an integral part of the team.
Jenny, thank you for all of the work you do.
