Volunteer On-Site

HEARTH has a variety of on-site volunteer opportunities for all ages and skillsets.

Volunteer ideas include but are not limited to:

  • Painting our facility
  • Helping families with our community garden
  • Landscaping
  • Life skills workshops in person or virtual
    One-on-one or group workshops with program participants could include interview skills, resume refreshing, budgeting, etc. Individual volunteers or groups of up to 10. 1-2 hours.
  • Run a sports session – seasonal
    Soccer, basketball, juggling? If your people have the skills, come and share them with our young people. Individuals or groups of up to 10 volunteers. 1-2 hours.
  • Childcare sessions
    Run fun and engaging sessions for young people to give moms time to focus on themselves. Group activity, in-person suitable for 5-10 volunteers. 1-2 hours first Monday of the month 5.45 pm-7 pm
  • Tutoring in-person or virtual
    Working to support our participants learning in key subjects’ math, science, and English. Individuals. 1-2 hours a week.
  • Housing Support
    Work alongside our program team to help families transition from our program to securing housing and thriving. Individuals or small groups. 1 + hours a week depending on the family’s needs.
  • Seasonal Decorating
    Decorate our main hall and porch around seasonal themes – winter, Valentines, Spring, Easter, Fall, and the Holidays. Group or individual activities. 1+ hours
  • Ground maintenance
    Weeding, litter picking, pruning, etc alongside our maintenance technician. Group activity, on-site, suitable for 5 – 15 volunteers. 3-6 hours
  • Food Pantry or in-kind donation drive
    Collect items for our food pantry, put together craft kits, meals in a jar or collect items for our store of everyday essentials, there are lots of options. Group activity, off-site, for groups of 5 + 2 hrs +
  • Fundraising event support
    Help at our focus showcase events, Hops for HEARTH, Tees and Traps and Purses with a Purpose. There is always lots to do on the day and afterward. Group activity. In-person, on-site at HEARTH, or external venues in the Pittsburgh area. 5 + volunteers. 4 hrs +
  • Seasonal Activities
    Run an activity or party session for our families, easter egg hunts, fall fest, summer carnival, etc.
    Group activity 2 + hrs
  • And so much more!

Volunteer Virtually

In our ever evolving world, HEARTH now offers virtual volunteer opportunities. These include but are not limited to:

  • Virtual tutoring for families
  • Virtual Budgeting with families
  • Virtual craft or cooking class
  • Virtual exercise class
