October is Homeless Children’s Awareness Month. This month, the Homeless Children’s Education Fund (HCEF) hosted a variety of events to bring awareness to the growing issue of homelessness faced by children in and around Pittsburgh, PA.
On October 4th, Marisa C. Williams, HEARTH’s CEO, attended the YOU CAN. Inspire event and stood in solidarity with HEARTH’s partners in support of over 2,500 children who are experiencing homelessness in Allegheny County and Pittsburgh.
HEARTH is a proud partner of the HCEF and Marisa was happy to support the organization’s cause. The event featured a live demonstration depicting childhood homelessness and a press conference including a variety of speakers and community leaders.
The mission of the HCEF is to advance the education of children and youth experiencing homelessness in Southwestern PA, guiding them to be productive, empowered citizens.
HATS OFF to HEARTH
October 20th is HATS OFF for HEARTH at the August Wilson African American Cultural Center. 6:30 p.m. (5:30 p.m. for VIP) to 9:30 p.m. you can join us for a classy night of food, wine, live music, and philanthropy.
Presented by Quidel, this event will open your eyes the wonderful and complex world of wine where you’ll leave feeling confident in your future wine selections. It’s also a great way to learn about HEARTH while having an amazing time.

Young Professionals Board: Fall Festivities
HEARTH’s Young Professionals Board will be hosting Boos & Booze at Bar 11 on October 27th from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. This Halloween themes event will feature music, a costume contest, and a raffle.
If you’re 21 or over and would enjoy a night of dressing up in costumes and partying with friends, register now and bring a guest! The cover charge is only $10 and an additional $10 for the costume contest.
You can also donate if you can’t attend, to help us raise money for the resources we require to help single parents provide for their children. Our goal is to raise $500 with this event and a little goes a long way.

Stories of Change
We’ve been providing housing for families in need for over 26 years. Here we’ll share one of many stories of parents and their children who have found success and security at HEARTH.
Amber and her children found HEARTH after leaving their home which was unsafe due to domestic violence.
She heard about HEARTH from a friend. After doing some research, Amber decided to call and give HEARTH a chance.
“I have become self-reliant, built my credit, and I’m in a much better mental state now than before I came here.”
Amber’s children have also greatly benefited from the safety and security of HEARTH and having a place to call home.
“My children have improved mentally and emotionally and the oldest is going to graduate, which I didn’t have any idea would happen. We have food and clothing, and we are safe here.”
“I have a roof over my head and government resources that have eased my life. I’m also working full time and have paid off all my debts. HEARTH has helped me in more ways that I can count.”
Stories like Amber’s are why we do what we do here at HEARTH. No parent should have to worried about the safety and wellbeing of their children. No child should have to wonder where their next meal is coming from or where they’ll sleep each night.
